Frequently Asked Questions About Disposable Pan Liners

How do pan liners prevent cross-contamination?

Pan liners help prevent cross-contamination in several ways by acting as a physical barrier between food and the pan or between different food items. Here’s how:

  • Keeps pans clean – Liners prevent food from touching the pan directly, reducing the risk that bacteria, allergens, or residues from previous batches transfer to new foods.
  • Separate handling – When you use a liner, you can remove the food without touching the pan, reducing exposure to contaminants.
  • Single-use protection – Disposable liners are typically used once and discarded, preventing microbes or allergens from accumulating over time.
  • Allergen control – Liners reduce the risk of cross-contact between foods that contain allergens (like nuts, gluten, or dairy) and foods that should remain allergen-free.
  • Easy cleanup – Less scrubbing and residue means fewer bacteria remain on the pan for future use.

What is the safest oven temperature for pan liners?

For maximum safety and longevity, we recommend only using pan liners within their listed temperature ratings.

  • HDPE Steam Table Liners are rated from -100°F to 220°F and should not be used in the oven; they are safe for the microwave and steam tables.
  • Poly-Nylon pan liners are rated from -70°F to 400°F.
  • Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Pan Liners are rated from  -100°F to 400°F, but designed for dry heat or convection ovens

Are disposable pan liners recyclable?

Yes, all of the pan liners and steam table liners we offer are recyclable. Recycling programs vary by location—please check with your local recycling center or municipality to confirm acceptance.

Which liner works best for freezer storage?

If you need long-term freezer storage, poly-nylon liners hold up best without tearing or becoming brittle. HDPE is acceptable for short-term or budget use, but PET is generally not recommended for long-term deep freezing.
For food storage that does not need to double as a cooking pan liner, we also offer food storage bags, freezer bags, and vacuum sealer bags.

What’s the difference between HDPE, PET, and Poly Nylon liners?

Disposable pan liners protect pans, reduce cleanup, and extend pan life. Choose HDPE for steam tables, Poly Nylon or PET for oven use up to 400 °F, and freezer-safe liners for storage. All are FDA-approved for food contact.

Pan Liner type Temperature range tolerance Strength Comparable cost Best suited for
HDPE -100°F to 220°F Light Duty $ Warming, storage, budget use
Poly-Nylon -70ºF or -100°F to 400°F High strength $$ Freezer-to-oven, boiling, versatile cooking & storage
PET Up to 400°F (dry heat only) Moderate to high $$$ Oven baking, roasting, dry heat, crystal-clear visibility
