Stretch Film for pallet loads
Reach for stretch film when the load moves on a pallet. It stretches cold and grips itself, so nothing needs heat. If you're wrapping one product rather than a stacked load, that's shrink film instead. Pick your grade by how you apply it: by hand, by machine, or pre-stretched to cut material per load.

ShopShrink Wrap for single products
Reach for shrink film when you want the package tight to the product's own shape. It goes on loose, then heat pulls it in. That's the difference from stretch film, which grips by tension alone. Choose polyolefin for food contact and general retail, PVC where cost matters more than food safety, and bundling film to group multiples.

ShopPlastic Sheeting for flat covering
Reach for plastic sheeting when the film lies flat over something instead of wrapping around it. The trade calls it C&A film, short for construction and agriculture, and you'll also see it sold as poly film. It goes under a concrete pour as a vapor barrier, between drywall and insulation, across a crawl space floor, and under mulch in landscape beds. Runs 1.5 to 6 mil in clear, black, and natural.

Cling FIlm
Clings without heat or adhesive.
ShopPoly Tubing for custom bag lengths
Reach for poly tubing when no stock bag size fits. It arrives as an open-ended roll, so you cut and heat-seal whatever length the part needs. That's the one thing the other four families can't do. Lay-flat widths run 1" to 60" in 1.5 to 6 mil, clear or black.

ShopVCI for metal parts
Reach for VCI when the thing inside is metal. The packaging releases a vapor that settles on the surface and stops oxidation, so you skip the oil and the degreasing step. It's the one family you choose by contents rather than by job, and it comes in every format, so pick the one that matches how the part already ships. Protects up to 5 years when packed and stored properly.
Common questions about packaging film
Both measure film thickness, and 100 gauge equals 1 mil. Stretch film is quoted in gauge, so an 80-gauge roll is 0.8 mil. Sheeting, tubing, and VCI are quoted in mil. One mil is one thousandth of an inch. When you compare two films priced per roll, check that you're comparing the same measure, because 6 mil sheeting is more than seven times the thickness of 80 gauge stretch film.
VCI, in whatever format, matches how the part ships. Use VCI bags for individual parts, VCI paper to wrap or interleave a stack, VCI film to cover something too large to bag, and VCI tubing when you want to cut your own length. Standard stretch film and sheeting keep water off but do nothing to address the oxidation already underway on the surface.
No. Sheeting lies flat and has no cling or stretch memory, so it won't hold a load together. Use stretch film for a stacked pallet, or a pallet shrink bag when you need the whole load enclosed against dust and weather. Sheeting is for covering, not securing.
Food contact depends on the individual product, not the family, so check the spec on the item before you order. Polypropylene tubing is commonly used in food packaging. If you're not sure, call, and a packaging expert will confirm the grade for your application.
Yes. Stretch film, poly tubing, and poly sheeting all run as custom, and sheeting comes centerfold, J-lip, center slit, double wound, perforated, or embossed. Custom orders include 2 free hours of art time, a $375 value. Stock items ordered before 4PM EST Monday through Friday ship the same day.
